What is Zarzuela?

Zarzuela is a beautiful art form of lyric drama that encompasses rhythms and traditions with a comical and musical style, which incorporates singing, dancing, and dialogue that originated in Spain in the

17th century

It’s name comes from the Palacio de la Zarzuela, where the royal family resides. It was there that the first works of the great literary figure Calderon de la Barca were performed (El Golfo de las Sirenas and El Laurel de Apolo are two examples.

The Zarzuela evolved during the 18th century and became entertainment for the general population during the middle of the 19th century. The Zarzuela, because of this, has had a continuous history of metamorphosis and change from its birth until the present. This evolution is reflected in the more thar 10,000 works that were created in Spain, as well as the 4000 works created in Latin America. The Zarzuela genre covers all of Latin America as well as the Philippines, with a unique artistic synchronization with the Spanish peninsula.

About Us

Zarzuela USA is a non-profit organization founded in 2019 by musicians, artists, producers in film, television, and radio. Zarzuela USA is passionate about Zarzuela and believes in the power of community and mentorship. Music profoundly influences the formation of individuals and, therefore, the benevolent impact musically-enlightened people can have on society.

It is our mission to promote the Zarzuela as an expression of our Hispanic identity. Throughout this program, we aim to introduce Zarzuela to audiences of all ages, cultures and ethnicities to awaken their passion and interest in this genre. Likewise, our aim is to bring the healing power of music to those with special needs, such as autism, different skills, and victims of domestic violence.

Through music and dance, we strive to build a bridge through which cultures can communicate. We use this art form to understand and relate to each other and discover what we have in common.

Analía celebrates the heritage of being the fourth generation in her family immersed in music and cultural production, studying at Interlochen National Music Academy Michigan, she joined the National Symphony Orchestra of SODRE Uruguay and the Montevideo Philharmonic Orchestra as a violist player. Participates in the foundation of the Youth Symphony Orchestra “José Artigas” She begins her career as a Cultural Producer becoming the General Manager of the SODRE National Youth Symphony Orchestra producing national official tours and concerts throughout Europe as in the Berlin Philharmonic, in the United States Kennedy Center, National Theaters of Mexico and Panama Analía has been the Institutional Coordinator of the SODRE National Symphony Orchestra, developing institutional strengthening and exchange at national and international level. She is the Institutional Coordinator of the Foundation” Sistema de Orquestas y Coros Infantiles y Juveniles del Uruguay” that has been for more than 20 years accomplishing the statement about” Music as universal right”, making it possible for thousands of children of all across Uruguay to access a Choral and Orchestral training. Also joining the team in Zarzuela USA as the Executive Director.
